Welcome to Wordsmith Studio’s Weekly Prompt!
Every Thursday we’ll post a new topic for your creative pleasure. When you get a good flash story, memory, poem, or photo (or three, or five) post them to your blog, website, Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. Then come back here and post a link to your contribution(s) in the comments.
This Week’s Theme is: Autumn
In a Tinker Bell movie I heard Autumn described as a time of renewal. I think that’s just so you don’t hurt the Minister of Autumn’s feelings. Really, Autumn is about death, isn’t it? It’s the slow degradation of all that Spring built and Summer enjoyed. It precedes Winter during which nothing may flourish. Fall is a harbinger of doom.
Or is it?
Could Autumn really be the harvest season wherein the seeds of Spring and the labors of Summer finally bear fruit? Could it be about preparing oneself for hard times to come? Fall might be so rife with change as to make us feel we are aging a little faster than we are the rest of the year, but the buttery gourds, sweet apples, warm cider, and the tender drift of fallen leaves feel like the soft folds of a cozy blanket.
Show us your Autumn. What does Fall look like locally? Is it a time for festivals and celebrations? Is it a slow march toward the inevitable freeze of Winter? Pictures, poems, passages, or the playful pile of just-raked leaves. Share your season with us.
Be sure to comment below with a link to your work. The rest of us will be sipping Pumpkin lattes and flipping channels between football games and new show premieres.
