Creative Prompt: Childhood Myths

Welcome to Wordsmith Studio’s Weekly Prompt!

WSS-logoEvery Thursday we’ll post a new topic for your creative pleasure.  When you get a good flash story, memory, poem, or photo (or three, or five) post them to your blog, website, Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. Then come back here and post a link to your contribution(s) in the comments.

This Week’s Theme is: Childhood Myths

We continue to perpetuate the Santa Claus story with every generation. Why? What is it that makes us want to see the children light up with the possibility of a jolly elf delivering toys? Do we miss that sense of wonder and excitement? Do we long for warm memories of the security and innocence of toy wishes and sleigh ride stories? What other stories do we tell again and again to keep the child-like imagination going in ourselves?

When we grow older, do we forgive our parents for those tales? Or do we harbor some resentment over being duped?
