Creative Prompt: Finish

Welcome to Wordsmith Studio’s Weekly Prompt!

Every Thursday we’ll post a new topic for your creative pleasure.  When you get a good flash story, memory, poem, or photo (or three, or five) post them to your blog, website, Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. Then come back here and post a link to your contribution(s) in the comments.

This Week’s Theme is: Finish

I just started the epic sprint of NaNoWriMo earlier this week. If you’re unfamiliar, it’s a challenge to write a book, of 50,000 words, in the 30 days of November. I participate every year, but never get very far.  But this year will be different. I can feel it. I will FINISH.Participant-2014-Twitter-Profile

There are a few reasons I feel confident about this year:

  • I’m more prepared than I’ve ever been before. I have a full plan/summary for the novel, about 3,000 words itself, and I’m really excited about both it and the feedback from the people who have read it so far.
  • I have friends helping. I meet up with other local writers also participating in the challenge and we write at the same time. We’re not really interacting with each other a whole lot, but just knowing that the person writing on the other side of the table will see me if I stop, really helps to keep those fingers moving. If you’re registered over there, feel free to buddy up with me. I need all the help I can get.
  • I have help at home. I sat down with Hubby and told him about my challenge. He will be supportive at home, helping with house and kid stuff so that I can have a little extra time for writing.
  • I hit my word count goal there out of five days. I know, that means I missed it twice, but my total words written is still right on track to hit 50K on November 30. I’m doing it!! See? Aren’t those little green squares on the calendar just beautiful?

Get Creative!

Are you working on any challenges right now? What helps you to finish? Got any tips for me? I’d love to hear them.

If you don’t have anything specific going on that you’d like to share, get creative. Write a story or poem that hinges on finishing a race, or a meal, or a book. Share an image of your own creation that means ‘finish’ to you. It could be a literal finish line, or recently finished project. Tell us about a time in your life when you felt particularly accomplished.

Don’t forget to share in the comments below!!
