Welcome to Wordsmith Studio’s Weekly Prompt!
Every Thursday we’ll post a new topic for your creative pleasure. When you get a good flash story, memory, poem, or photo (or three, or five) post them to your blog, website, Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. Then come back here and post a link to your contribution(s) in the comments.
This Week’s Theme is: If I Had Known
They say hindsight is 20/20. It’s one of the great clichés that means when we look backward, we see perfectly. It means that knowing what I know now, the decisions I made then would have been different. If I had known the outcome, I wouldn’t have continued on that course, tried that route, or pushed that option. If I had known what would be, I would have done more, done better, done nothing at all.
What do you know now that could have changed a decision you made? Did a hiring manager turn out to be a jerk? Did a trusted friend let you down? Did you miss an opportunity for one-last-hug before someone passed? The problem with hindsight is that it nurtures regret. It can turn a mistake into an albatross. Hindsight can make us wish we’d behaved differently so much that literature is filled with stories of the road-not-taken. Write your version. Then put the link here to share your meditation on If I Had Known…
